Breakfast Launch August 31 2008

Breakfast featuring Jeff Pulver and key Social Media and Marketing Players from the non-profit world.

This event hopes to introduce non-profits to the world of social media and blogging, and the potential it holds for helping non-profits reach their goals at relatively low costs.

The goal of the session is twofold: 1) to encourage non-profits to consider adopting new media strategies to promote their organization, due to their relative low costs and high impact; 2) to strengthen the Jerusalem non-profit community.

Participants will enjoy a delicious breakfast, stimulating conversation and ideas, and various printed material and resources.

Introduction – Dr. Avi Kay is the Chair of the Department of Technological Management and Marketing at the Jerusalem College of Technology where he also serves as the director of the Mark Schuman Center for Entrepreneurship. Dr. Kay hold advanced degrees in Organizational Behavior and Psychology from the Hebrew University and Northwestern University. He has served as an Organizational Psychologist in the Israel Defence Forces and the private sector for over twenty five years. He has also published works regarding the economic development of Israel, the transition of male Israeli Haredim to academia and the job market and business ethics – and is the editor of an upcoming guide regarding ethical codes – the first to be published in Hebrew.

Panel – What I learned from using social media to promote my non-profit

Moderator – illuminea marketing & media Friendly CEO, Miriam Schwab: illuminea helps businesses and organizations create web presences that work for them by creating and implementing social media strategies. Miriam will discuss why she thinks the use of social media particularly suits non-profits, and then give it over to the panelists and audience to discuss further.

Crossroads Director Caryn Green, M.S.W.: Crossroads is the only organization actively targeting at-risk Anglo youth in Jerusalem. In order to promote the organization and their cause, Crossroads, created Crossroads Comedy with a strong on and offline campaign. Caryn will discuss that campaign and its results.

Award winning blogger and cartoonist, Dry Bones‘ Yaakov Kirschen: Content delivery and project goals.

Co-founder and director of the PresenTense Group, and the co-founder of the PresenTense Institute for socially minded entrepreneurs, Aharon Horwitz: Topic to be announced.

Website Director at the Shalom Hartman Institute, Alan Abbey: In his position, Alan focuses on developing and expanding the Hartman brand online through an active website, blog, video, and podcast presence. Alan joined the Institute as Internet Director in 2008 after a career in newspaper, broadcast and online journalism in the United States and in Israel, including as founder of ynetnews.com. Alan will talk about the different sites available, and their strengths and weaknesses, particularly as they apply to Jewish/Israeli NFP’s, educational institutions and hasbara organizations.
